Step 1 Grievance Form
Anytime a collective agreement article is not followed, a grievance should be started. Many grievances start off informally at the school level with a simple conversation between the staff rep and the administrator. This is step one of the grievance process. Many issues are resolved at this level simply by bringing the issue to the attention of the administrator. It is important, however, to keep notes of any grievance conversations you have and to forward them to your local president. The president will need this information if the grievance does not get resolved and needs to proceed to the next step. Even if the issue does get resolved, it is important for the president of the local to know the sorts of issues that are arising in schools. If there are patterns of similar issues in multiple schools, the president will want to bring it up during weekly labour-management meetings. This information also helps to inform priorities for bargaining.
